My name is Tom Cranny and I am currently studying a Bachelor of Regional and Town Planning at the University of Queensland. I started working with 28 South Environmental as a field assistant for the Victoria Park redevelopment project. The work provided me with firsthand experience into the work that goes on behind the code. Something that is not often taught at university. Now in my fourth year of Town Planning I have started my industry placement with 28 South using my diverse set of skills to contribute to the wide range of projects undertaken by the team.
My role at the company allows me to visit and survey a diverse range of sites across South East Queensland, that are soon to be parklands, sub-developments, carparks and ecological corridors. This provides me with a context of the problem that may not be fully realised from aerial mapping alone. I enjoy working on every stage of the process, which presents me with countless new experiences every day in fields of Ecology, Environmental Management, and City Planning. I can’t wait to finish University but the real-world experiences and insights into the industry gained during my placement, will be invaluable for my career into the future.
