Koala Regulation in South East Queensland

By June 29, 2018News

In September 2017, the Queensland Koala Expert Panel released its report – A new direction for the conservation of koalas in Queensland. The report followed a 12-month review of the effectiveness of the State Government’s approach to koala conservation in South East Queensland.

Based on this work, the Panel identified the most effective and realistic ways to ensure a reversal of koala decline in the region, and strategies to ensure the species long-term persistence. The panel outlined six broad recommendations, all of which were accepted or supported in-principle by the State.

In early May 2018, after release of the State’s response to the expert panel’s recommendations, we were asked to advise industry groups on likely implications for urban residential development in the region.
